The Southwark coal-fired power plant is on the Delaware River in Philadelphia. It was built during World War II. This was one of eight Philadelphia Electric Company stations in the area – it reached a generating capacity of 364MW by the 1960s. It drew 450 million gallons of water daily from the Delaware River for cooling and used 50 million gallons of city water yearly for steam and other purposes. By the 1980s, operations ceased, and now, Southwark is the victim of scrappers and other vandals.
